If you're coming to Cape Cod (or live here), you probably like to be on the water at some point. Cape Cod's Bass River divides the towns of Yarmouth and Dennis (near Hyannis / Barnstable) and Bass River Kayaks, Cruises & Paddle Boards in West Dennis is the only rental operation right on the river. Get set-up with life jackets, paddles, full instructions guidance on where to paddle in the area and a complimentary help into your boat and pull up upon your return! Customer service is a top priority to make sure you have a great experience on the water. We strive to make it easy and fun!

We currently have three locations - located at:
1. 118 Main St. (Route 28), West Dennis, MA, 02668 - turquoise building in front of Sundancer's Restaurant
2. Bass River Park - 40 Main St. (Route 28), West Dennis, MA, 02668 - right next to the Bass River Bridge
3. 109 Main St. (Route 28), West Dennis, MA, 02669 - in Windmill Plaza

At any of our three locations, you never carry the boats or boards anywhere, we help you in the water on location and off to have a great time.

Bass River offers a very unique scenery on Cape Cod, with one route providing quite, exceptional greenery and another route providing beautiful homes, boats and lots to see. This class 'zero' river (as in flat) is great for families, friends, couples and solo outings.

Bonus - there are no sharks in Bass River if you were wondering.

Private Boat Charters on Cape Cod

Looking for a fun time with friends, family or coworkers? Why not rent a boat on Cape Cod and have someone take you around?!

How it works:

Pick the people you'd like to spend your time with. Some folks like to host their friends and family for a fun outing together or as a great work outing. Most private charters are for an hour and a half. The 'Starfish' river boat explores beautiful Bass River with you on board!

What kind of outing would you like to have?
The River Cruises 'Starfish' boat is BYOB - you can bring your own alcohol on board (and food.) Some non-alcoholic beverages and snacks are available for purchase on board. The 'Starfish' has hosted everything from family reunions, birthdays, school outings, bachelor/bachelorette groups, fireworks, full moon tours, work celebrations or parties, graduations, holidays, memorials, and more. The Starfish can help you plan the set-up for your outing ahead of time and make sure you have the space you need. Some options include narration vs. no narration and all seats vs. adding some tables instead.

Set a date!
Call ahead at 508-362-5555 to pick an available time and date and let your guests know. The staff at Bass River Kayaks, Cruises & Paddle Boards wants to accommodate you and your needs to make sure you have the best time possible. The staff can answer questions that you have and maybe even help with ideas. Cruises can be morning, during the day or later in the afternoon/evening. Regularly scheduled 90-minute narrated cruises are 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. during peak season and private cruises are usually scheduled around those.

What else?
The 'Starfish' boat has a bathroom on the boat, it can hold 49 people plus the crew [captain and mate(s)], and some seats can be removed for table room and the unique flat-bottom shape of the boat allows for shallow cruising. The Bass River on Cape Cod divides the towns of Dennis and Yarmouth and shows visitors and locals alike the beauty of the area. With private charters starting at prices below $500, it's one of the best deals you'll find around!

See you on Bass River for your special occasion!

Off-site Kayak and Paddle Board Rentals - Have them at your house!

I’ve spent summers on Cape Cod for quite some time, and I'm always looking for new things to do outside with my family. If you’re looking for an alternative to the beach but still want to be close to water, I would recommend renting kayaks or paddle boards at your house! This is an easy and interactive activity, and a great way to explore areas of Cape Cod from the water. When aboard either a kayak or paddle board, you have the control! You are able to decide whether you want to go out on the water for a challenging arm and core workout, or just for a leisurely exploration of the surrounding area with your family. There aren’t any time constraints either, it’s up to you and how you’re feeling. This is something I really value in any activity. Off-site rentals also serve as a helpful experiment to see if you would like to purchase a kayak or paddle board for your family. Delivery and pick up for off-sites are simple enough, and the paddles and life jackets are included in the cost. I should also note that delivery to West Dennis is free of charge, and surrounding areas only require a small fee. You’re also welcome to use your own vehicle to take it off-site. Coming from a family of all ages, it’s nice to know that everyone is be able to participate. Feel free to call Bass River Kayaks, Cruises & Paddle Boards with questions that you have or to set one up! 508-362-5555. See you on Cape Cod and on the water!

One renter had a paddle board dropped off at Green Harbor Resort in Yarmouth and we thought this was a great spot!

The Dog Days of Summer

Want to go kayaking, but don't want to leave the pup at home? You don't have to!

Our kayaks and canoes are dog friendly here on the Bass River of Cape Cod. All summer, dogs enjoy the boat rides and swim in the clean waters. There are plenty of birds and interesting sites for the dogs, as well as sand bars and beaches for the dogs to play on. There is plenty of room in the kayaks to fit them too! Kayaking with your pup usually works best if your dog is medium or small sized, but we've had bigger dogs try their paws at kayaking too.

"Minnie" the dog, enjoys the spotlight and boat rides.

There's plenty of space in the kayaks, since the human paddler's feet go on the sides of the boat.

Fun times are always had by all!

"Cappy" the dog enjoys kayaking at least once a month.

As you can see, this 55lb dog fits just fine!

East Beach (the backside of West Dennis Beach) on Bass River, is a fantastic spot to kayak to and have a picnic on. The dogs love to get out, run around and go for a swim.

So bring your dog next time and feel free to post your favorite pictures to our Facebook Page at!

Quiet dogs are also welcome on the River Cruise boat, the "Starfish", for the 90 minute narrated tours that depart 4 times a day at 11am, 1pm, 4pm and 6pm. You can make reservations anytime by calling (508)-362-5555. We're always by our phones to answer any of your questions.

See you on the river!

Prepare for Kayaking With These 5 Tips

Add some adventure to your Cape Cod vacation and try kayaking with your friends and family on the Bass River! Visitors come to Cape Cod to enjoy its scenic beauty, relax and hang out on the beach. Kayaking is a great way to get out on the water for cheap, burn off those fried seafood calories, and have some fun. These 5 tips will help you prepare for your next kayaking trip on beautiful Bass River.

Tip #1: Look at the Forecast and Set Aside a Day to Kayak
To make sure you fit in time to kayak on your vacation, view the weather forecast ahead of time and pick a day with light to calm winds and little chance of thunderstorms. This is not hard to do, Cape Cod usually has beautiful weather, and this summer has been especially sunny and warm.

Tip #2: Bring Snacks and Drinks
There is room in the kayaks for a small cooler, water and snacks. The Bass River has plenty of sandy beaches to stop at along the way, which is perfect for having a picnic on East Beach (the backside of West Dennis beach that is only accessible to boaters and kayakers), or at one of the many other stops along the river. You'll want to keep hydrated when you're out in the sun and exercising.

Tip #3: Wear the Right Clothing and Footwear
Wearing a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and a bathing suit would be appropriate for recreational kayaking on the Bass River. Jeans are not a good idea, as you can expect to get water and salt on your legs from water dripping off of the paddles. Wear sandals or water shoes on your feet, so that you can step in and out of the water. The Bass River is clean and ready for swimming in.

Tip #4: Bring a Camera (Preferably Waterproof)
Kayaking is a perfect opportunity to get some action shots on your Cape Cod vacation.  Our kayak crew is more than happy to take pictures of your group, and the Bass River is lined with million dollar homes, sleek looking boats, and lots of spectacular birds that make for great photos.

Tip #5: Know How to Find Us Ahead of Time
We are located at 109 Main St (Rte 28) West Dennis, MA, 02670 in the Windmill Plaza. If you are using a GPS, make sure to put in the town of West Dennis or the zip code 02670. You will see a kayak hanging out front of our store and that is where you sign up for kayaking. Everyone 18 and older will need to sign a contract here, and then you will head down to the Bass River Park for all the kayak equipment. The Bass River Park is located right next to the Bass River Bridge, just about 1/4 mile down the road.
